Your winter guide to Marshfield

Looking for a winter getaway? Take a trip to Marshfield in central Wisconsin, where you’ll find great options for outdoor recreation, welcoming hotels, unique attractions, outstanding restaurants, and much more. Here’s what you need to know before your next winter trip.

Outdoor recreation

Fans of outdoor winter fun will find plenty to do in Marshfield. Wenzel Family Plaza in Marshfield’s historic downtown is a four-seasons gathering place that offers ice skating in the winter, and outdoor ice rinks can also be found at Pickle Pond at the corner of Peach Avenue and Arnold Street and at the Jer Lang Show Palace on the Central Wisconsin Fairgrounds.

Powers Bluff County Park in Arpin (about 20 minutes southeast of downtown Marshfield) is a 160-acre park with hills and trails for downhill skiing, tubing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. The park’s three downhill trails vary in length from 1,300 feet to 1,500 feet, and the vertical drop is about 250 feet. Four-fast paced tube runs provide excitement for kids of all ages; tubes are provided with the purchase of a tube hill ticket.

Wildwood Park (home to Marshfield’s popular zoo) offers 150 acres and miles of trails to explore for hikers, snowshoers, and fat-tire bikers.

Other attractions

Wildwood Park & Zoo has been welcoming visitors for nearly a century and boasts an impressive array of animals, from bison, bald eagles, and cougars to elk, lynx, and bobcat. Visitors can walk through the 150-acre site or view some of the zoo’s bigger animals along the Large Animal Drive. And be sure to check out the special habitat that houses twin Kodiak bears Munsey and Boda!

The Chestnut Center for the Arts is located in a historic former church building in downtown Marshfield and hosts events throughout the year, including musical performances, art exhibits, and classes.

The Marshfield Heritage Museum is open from 1 to 4pm Wednesdays and Saturdays and features exhibits about significant events in Marshfield’s history, local military heroes, and more.
