31 Years: Badger State Games Sporting Triad in Marshfield

Marshfield is proud to be selected to host three Badger State Games events in 2020. Athletes have the opportunity to compete in Snowshoe on February 15, Gymnastics (new next year in 2021), and Baseball Classic on June 12-14 & June 19-21. Over 500 athletes are expected to participate in this year’s Badger State Games events in Marshfield (bringing their friends and families to cheer them on, of course!)

The Badger State games originated in 1985 as the summer games, and later introduced the winter games in 1989. The games continue going strong as they enter their 31st year. With a schedule of more than 50 events, individuals and teams of all ages have the chance to compete in a variety of amateur events in the style of the prestigious Olympic Games. With so many divisions available, everyone from amateurs to experienced athletes can participate and continue the annual tradition with friends and family. The Badger State Games is always adding new and exciting events in their annual line ups, especially seeking out events that are featured in the State Games of America. Beyond being a point of pride, all athletes who receive a medal in the Badger State Games are invited to participate in the State Games of America, giving you the chance to compete alongside the best athletes from all over the country!

Competitors will venture out in the cold to run in a new venue this year for the Badger State Games Snowshoe race. The new location at the Marshfield School Forest is sure to offer new challenges and enjoyment of the great, wintry outdoors for snowshoers. Men and women’s brackets range from ages 18 and under to 61 and over, with the option to participate in a 5K, 10K, or (free) Kids 400 Meter Race. Spectators are invited to start their racers off at the starting line to the sound of cowbells, cheers, and other noisemakers (creativity is encouraged). A portion of proceeds from this event will also benefit the Marshfield Mountain Bike Club.

Local gymnastics facility Hub City Gymnastics, operating since 2018, was chosen to host the Badger State Winter Games in Gymnastics for its first time in Marshfield. Experienced gym owner Allie Dryer, a coach for nearly 15 years and judge for four years, is excited to welcome athletes to Marshfield for this inaugural Badger State Games gymnastics experience. The event will be held in the Boson Company Fieldhouse, located at Marshfield High School. Athletes in gymnastics levels 1-8 will be eligible to compete in addition to Xcel Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond for all-ages athletes.

Once again, the Badger State Games Baseball Classic will bring in 30-40 teams this year, and utilize the fields at the Steve J. Miller Recreation Area. Age divisions for play range from 9-16 years old, and all are invited to come out and witness talented youngsters compete in America’s favorite pastime. Families can also enjoy the baseball facility’s close proximity to downtown Marshfield, and enjoy shopping and dining opportunities, along with other entertainment like Wenzel Family Plaza, Escape Room Marshfield, and more.

No matter what your athletic inclination or skill, or whether you’re a participant or supporter, Marshfield invites you to have FUN and celebrate the 31st Badger State Games in 2020!
